Emporis Standards is an information/standards specifications organization with the goal to ease exchange of information in the building market. Its codes and definitions form a template for all data and relations on the Emporis platform and are therefore available to all systems connected to Emporis.
All standards are overseen by the Emporis Standards Committee. The group compromises of members responsible for creating standards on different content areas, so-called subject groups. The members are editors or partners of Emporis with a great experience and knowledge in treating with building-related data.
The overall goals of Emporis Standards Committee are to enable operating and business operating objectives to be met. The specific goals and objectives are:
- Identify and participate in the development of standards that will have a positive effect on our customers, Emporis, and the Information Technology industry globally.
- Enable Emporis standards activities that are supportive of the product and business directions of Emporis.
- Enable the implementation of appropriate standards within the Emporis platform and Emporis products.
- Enable Emporis to participate effectively in national and international technology standards organizations.
- Enable the standards program, internally and externally, to be managed in a cost effective manner.
- Enable the creation and use of identifiers for any market and defining authorization processes for them.
Additionally, the responsibilities of the Emporis Standards Committee include:
- Governing the accuracy of content by verifying data and keeping track of its sources.
- Setting universal standards for measurements and data.
- Establishing official building records and rankings.
- Determining rules for and verifying results of market indexes.
- Seeking and maintaining contacts with building-related companies who can supply information.
- Supplying data to various publications, including statistical publications, statistical federal offices, newspapers, and other publishers.
Emporis Standards gathers its data through discussion and evaluation from a large array of trusted sources. Part of the work are also issues related to the storage of content. For example content pertaining technical data of buildings can be stored in the databases only when it is based on readings of blueprints or other building planning documents. Additionally, data can be locked against future manipulation.
